Postpartum’s Little Secrets

The little secrets of postpartum

The time to give birth is the most desired time when we are pregnant. We’re finally going to have the long-awaited baby in our arms!  Despite this, it is also the beginning of a difficult phase for the new mother. About that hardly anyone thinks.

In addition to adapting to the new being, the mother goes through her own transition, both physical and emotional. Postpartum secrets are essential for starting a good recovery. In this article we are going to tell some of them for you.

During the pregnancy…

Scientific research in neurology and bioscience has shown that pregnancy changes the mother’s brain, as it gradually transforms it for the arrival of a new human being.

And here’s the good news:  this transformation makes us smarter, sharpens our senses, improves emotional intelligence, and allows us to prioritize tasks!

Still, the mother-to-be’s emotional well-being is on a constant tightrope. All our hormones need to get back into their normal flow and that means crying and laughing at the same time, having mixed feelings, and definitely adapting to this new life.

How Postpartum Affects Some Women

Approximately 75% of women experience “postpartum depression”. It is a transient depression that peaks on the fourth or fifth day after the baby is born and usually coincides with going home after a while in the hospital, where the mother received all the care, day and night. Now it is she who has to take care of all the new and unknown tasks.

Fortunately, this state usually disappears by itself in a few days, when everything returns to normal and new routines are established.

to be

The mother’s body suffers more from this whole process, because when we housed a small being inside us, our organs moved during pregnancy to make more space.

So now that we’re no longer carrying a baby, all these organs need to go back to their original places. In addition, the mother has some scars that will take a while to heal.

The little secrets of postpartum

Sleep is the central axis of any recovery

After all the effort during childbirth, the best thing for a good recovery is to sleep a lot.  Sleep is restorative and, in our case, primordial.

frozen vegetables

Frozen peas will help us in our recovery.

Peas are the ideal type of vegetable to put in a plastic bag and help reduce the swelling of our episiotomy.

the hair dryer

Every time we need to go to the bathroom, we should bring a small jar of warm water to simply let it run into our spots and keep this area clean and dry.

Then we must use the hair dryer. Moisture is our enemy.

The efforts

We are not superheroines. Although we try to get back to normal life quickly, we should not get up abruptly from anywhere or carry weight in the first few days.

Any slight effort from our body can cause some of the points to open, which can make recovery longer.

The feeding

Food is very important, as during childbirth we lose a lot of blood. Furthermore, our effort was enormous.

This is the ideal time to try out those stews our grandmothers used to make to recover and fill ourselves with energy.

A healthy and balanced diet is the basis for, little by little, returning to our previous form.

Delegate tasks

to be

When we get home with our baby, there are plenty of arms to hold him in his lap.

Who will wash the dishes, put the clothes in the machine, iron and clean?

It is exactly at these times that we need volunteers .  We need to let ourselves be helped and reconcile that if the house isn’t as clean as it used to be, it’s not important now.

The most important thing is you and your baby.

no visits

No visits, thank you. It is normal that all friends and acquaintances want to meet our little one.

But this is not the best time. At least not during the first week, when Mom needs to recover and the newborn needs to adjust to the new routine of sleeping, bathing, and feeding.

And finally, here’s our last piece of advice, although it seems a little strange: enjoy it because time goes by so quickly and the tired state you find yourself in is fleeting, it’s just a matter of time.  However, the moment you have your newborn baby in your arms, you will forget about the rest of your life!
