My baby just wants to be held: what should I do?

They always want to be held in their laps because they feel more confident and more protected by their parents. But there is not always time to load them. That’s why you might ask yourself, “What do I do if my baby just wants to be held?”

Carrying a baby on your lap is very natural. In fact, they need it. This is one of the main ways to strengthen the relationship between parents and children.

How to do the housework if my baby just wants to be held

It’s true that babies need attention. However,  how is it possible to do housework if your baby just wants to be held?  You can apply the suggestions we will give below:

  • The simplest solution is to  enjoy the moments when your baby is sleeping. That way you can complete your tasks without any problems. The downside to this option is that when he sleeps, you also want to rest.
  • So,  another suggestion is that you buy a baby product known as a kangaroo in the market. With this accessory, you’ll have your hands free to work with peace of mind and your baby will receive the affection of a mother who needs it so much.

An important clarification: avoid using the kangaroo when cooking, as it is dangerous. An advantage of this product is that when you go for a walk, you will also have more comfort, especially if you have to carry a lot of things.

At what point does the baby need to acquire independence?

Although during the first few months after birth your baby needs to be held in your arms to feel protected and loved,  as he grows older, it is important that you teach him to be a little more independent and to stand on his own.

For example,  if he is already 1 or 2 years old, you shouldn’t go to him again as soon as he cries. I sso will make you believe that you can control with a simple cry.

Still,  that doesn’t mean you’re going to ignore your baby completely. It still requires your protection and care. However, you must avoid overprotection.

But how do I get that if my baby just wants to be held?

It’s a little difficult to deal with if the baby just wants to be held and doesn’t fit in the crib or stroller. But it’s not just that, he’s getting heavier and, to top it off, he doesn’t accept that others catch him.

However,  with patience and time, you will be able to make him learn to be more independent.

Get the idea out of your mind that your baby doesn’t understand

They are very smart and can learn what you teach. Then  explain that he must be patient and wait for the mother to get out of bed  or that the mother is exhausted and needs a rest.

Maybe at first he doesn’t hear you and keeps crying. This reaction is because he has not developed self-control. But, don’t give up. Only then will he learn to think about others and understand that he will not always be the center of attention.

This doesn’t mean you will be rude to him, as you  can teach him to feel safe, even if he isn’t that close to you. To achieve this goal, you can:

  • Let Daddy take care of him too.
  • Invite other trusted people into your home to play with him.
  • Offer toys that are colorful and make noise for him to be entertained.
  • Give him a fruit or a piece of biscuit as this will calm him down for a while.
  • Allow him to walk around the house, whether on a walker or crawling.
    • Remember that you must take the necessary safety measures so that he is not in danger while exploring the environment.

What if my baby wants to be held when he goes for a walk?

Children love to go out. At these times, they feel free and learn new things and that’s why they like to walk alone.

However,  if your little one wants you to carry him or her while walking, this could be a symptom of tiredness.

That’s why you should plan your outings well. Otherwise, you’ll have to carry it on your lap and you’ll be exhausted. Here are some suggestions:

  • Before leaving, pack water and food in your backpack. This will keep your child energized longer.
  • Carry toys to entertain you outdoors, like a ball.
  • If he still doesn’t know how to walk, choose to bring a baby carriage. This also works for children who have already taken their first steps. If they get tired, you will bring them back home without difficulty.

Finally, remember that  if your baby wants to be held, it’s not just a whim, he needs it. So offer him all the love he deserves and, little by little, teach him to be more independent.
